Congratulations to Richard at FX for being nominated WorldTop25 Wedding Videographer.
I would be really interested to know who our peer group would nominate for the title of Top 20 UK wedding videographers. Who do you admire? This could become a useful database of companies for people to follow on twitter, or whose work to watch to raise their game. I know I am always on the look out for the best of the best and learn from them all the time.
To get the ball rolling, I would like to put forward:
FX (I really do like your work Richard)
Engage Cinematic - always awesome!
De Rienzo Films
Minty Slippers
Beutiful Life
Cedar Video
EverAfter
Reel Weddings
De Rienzo
Z Cheema
for me anyway
Thank you for your confidence, Kaandaro
oh no, please don't say that!!! along with minty and reelweddings, we were only shortlist nominated, not actually nominated! eek! any chance you can edit out that line!
thanks for saying you like our work, amongst those other inspiring names :) (and your work is ace at the moment, just checked it out!)
Others i think have made top work! (not mentioned already, and in no particular order)
Velvetine Films,
MemoriesonFilm,
Arm Productions,
John Harris,
Stwsh.
...+ loads of others (but it's too early in the morning to get my brain working!)

Seems we just can't help but get ourselves into trouble on these Forums. Richard at FX received a shortlist nomination to the 'WorldTop25 Wedding Videographers, 2009', rather than an actual nomination and doesn't want to mislead anyone! Apologies to Richard.
However we think his work is brilliant, no matter what the semantics. We think Richard's strength lies in the amazing ways he frames his shots, everything else is just gravy, and we hope to see him actually listed next year.

Good nominations! I like them all:) Have you a link to Velvetine Films as I can not find them on Google
i meant velvetine studios, sorry, not films!
Velvetine can't really count on this as they are not in the UK.
Maurice (at Velvetine) is an ace wedding filmmaker though.

If I'm booked on the day and am asked to recommend someone else to shoot a movie I immediately send them off to Lester at Ocean 7 Productions. Nothing against all you guys in the slightest and your clips have all been to a very high standard, but until I've met you and watched a couple of your wedding films right through I can't recommend you with hand on heart, simple as that. Sure you know where I'm at.
Lester will never make a proper businessman because he takes inordinate care and far too long over the tiniest details in his movies. He cuts with frame accuracy, works fast yet sees in wide-angle, goes the extra mile and then some. And it shows, and shows beautifully.
tom.
A very good point Tom.
I only have one or two operators that I recommend. It's far too easy to create a cracking 2 minute clip, but the whole package has to be consistently good on sound, vision and editing before I'll recommend clients see them when we're already booked.

Spot on.

Love it. Great how they can teach how to shoot to rival the professionals. Although They can't do any worse that some who claim to be professional but clearly aren't.
Me and you! What a great way to save a bundle on the wedding film! A whole hour's training before a one-off full day of work. Wonder how much info is given on radio mics, the little niggly problem of editing, colour correction, low light, wide-angles, DVD menus and copyright clearance, to name but the tip of the iceberg.
With 40,000 media students coming out of the Uni's each year it is only a matter of time until they realise that they can't get jobs in mainstream TV and flood the wedding market as well.
Of course they are all fully trained and are happy to work for minimum wage :D
I have approached local colleges for years offering work experience places to students.
Unfortunately as soon as you mention weddings they're not interested.
They all seem to want to be DPs or work on music videos.
Even some "professional" cameramen shy away from paid work if it's a wedding.

:D:D:D
I've spoken to couples who are marrying abroad and want an edit afterwards. I always try to help them and give advice on the basics.
Get the tripod level being the 1st stage. I don't think they passed the advice on though as the ocean in the background of the beach ceremony was running downhill left to right. :)
I am with Tom on this , a short clip is fine, I have seen to many of them, only to find the main video is very poor standard, with jump cuts, poor lighting, terrible sound and poor framing.
Like the rest on this forum we all do our best and have our own styles and clients come to us because of that, which is what it is all about

Totally agree and I personally stay well away from weddings as I appreciate the skills involved are different, trouble is though that the pro DP's and music video makers can't get much work at the moment so that is why I can see it changing as the graduates struggle to find any work in those directions and think they can pop out and do weddings with their Z1's.
