Hi All

I have just upgraded my operating system hard drive from a 7200rpm to a 10000rpm both SATA, the problem is, it seems a bit slow, some programs are not as snappy as I would expect and it just seems a bit sluggish.
Any ideas.

Did you reinstall from scratch or just copy the existing OS to the new drive?

I just cloned the old drive using Acronis.

Re: Velociraptor
Interesting...
I wouldn't expect things to be slower, though not sure how much faster...
Is it a new Velociraptor or a used one? What speed SATA connection?
What's the SATA connection speed on your motherboard?
How does it compare to the old drive in terms of cache size?

Re: Velociraptor

Can you not just use something like "HD Tune" (Google it) to measure the speed of your old and new drives? There is a free, non-Pro, version available, which will give you a headline read/write speed and access times.

Drive cloning is not a good idea really.

To get the best performance you should do a proper format and fresh install. You should also use a disk manager / defragger such as Ultimate Defrag to move the most important files to the fastest part of the drive.
