The difficult part of using this effect in your own projects would be sourcing the multiple photographs for the location you want to zoom (all of the photographs need to be shot from the same persepctive but at various altitudes).

I didn't watch the fill tutorial (it's lengthy) -- but does the guy ever mention where he got the photographs? (I know he includes the project files, but it would be nice to make zooms from locations other than San Fran.)

the nasa link is pretty good. haven't explored it properly, but it works similar to google earth, with better quality, I'd say. can zoom to any place etc.
