As daddy of the bride this coming saturday in "Leafy Brum" a bit different from here in Torbay, I have been working on my speech!

I won`t bore you with the gory details but I thoght I`d share this poem that one of my clients used recently, It maybe usefull to others.

May you be poor in misfortune
Rich in blessings
Slow to make enemies
Quick to make friends.

May you have warm words on a cold evening
A full moon on a dark night
And the road downhill all the way to your door.

But rich or poor, quick or slow
May you know nothing but happiness from this moment on.

Best of luck on the day Barry.
You should have a field day in the speeches with the wealth of good speeches to pick from - I'm sure you've got a good cam operator to catch you in action, and I just know we'll get all the gory details later

Do not follow, I may not lead. Do not lead . . . I may not follow.

Rumour has it that you've booked 'Dougy' to record the wedding, but not to edit. He is only £200 for the day !!!

Best of luck to the B&G and yourself and the 'boss'.
People often forget that this is a big day for the parents too.

Enjoy it.

There's only one eF in Ferguson

I now seem to spend a lot of time arguing with inanimate objects

One by the FOB to groom - "It is important to get on well with your mother in law. I didn't speak to mine for 12 months after I got married. It's not that I didn't like her - I just didn't like to interrupt."

Or as an alternative - a prospective groom asked of an elderly man of the cloth what the worst penalty was for bigamy. Without hesitation the answer was given "two mothers-in-law".

My father once claimed (at my parents' ruby wedding anniversary) that arguments between them had been few, but when they did occur he was usually frustated by my mother's reluctance to see his point. "Why oh why did the good Lord make you so beautiful and yet so stupid? " he asked in exasperation. Calmly came the reply "He made me beautiful so that I would be attracive to you, and stupid so that you would be attractive to me! :D ".

Good luck Barry - though you must have hours of excellent material in your archives.

Thank you all for your comments & wishes! much appreciated.

As far as the day was concerned, it all went off well enough.

I was banned from using a camera so our first plan was to utillise my nephew & brother-in-law to use the VX2000`s. Problem number 1 was that she who must be obeyed MK2 didn`t want 2 people running around with cam`s.

2nd problem was that although my nephew was allowed to cover the ceremony & speeches, and he has used a camera before, was to put it mildly, not very good! At on stage his mother grabbed the cam saying "what are you standing around for? give it here & I`ll get some"

Get to the cutting of the cake & I start to get some shots & am ordered by daughter NOT TO! I carry on & she is more adamant that I`m not to. So everyone is getting the pics of the cake cutting & i just sit at the table watching from a distance! never saw it at all.

Good end to the evening when I walked into a door getting a fat lip into the bargain.

Speech was well received although it was a very typical father of the bride one with a couple of laughs thrown in.

Did I enjoy it? If I`m absolutey honest, I`m glad it`s all over & much prefered our youngest one`s festivities couple of years back.

Do I care if she reads this? not really! It`s about time she stopped being so difficult. Do I love her? course I do, & I hope they have a long & succesfull marriage, but if the weddings I cover were like this< I would find another occupation.

Sorry I read this too late to contribute to the big day before it happened - I watched my eldest son (down the view finder)splice the knot last month
My only word of advice to anyone reading this is not to film your own family's wedding especially if, like this one, it contained multiples of mothers/ fathers/ step mothers/ step fathers!! The editing was hell, trying to keep the balance and avoid future eruptions!
Well done Barry - I understand.

Just perusing the board and came across your comment Fabian. Boy... you must be 'SO' good!!

Checked out your web site. Particularly liked the shot of the hands. Xtra 'Cheese' with that one.

Hi Dougy. You took your time.

I'm not trying to stir anything but ...

The 'hands' shot on the web site is actually the Bride putting the ring on the Grooms finger. A shot that I would have thought was an important one to get. With or without cheese.

I do consider myself good but I also like to think that I have alot to learn.
Each wedding has its own hiccups. I've never seen a wedding yet where 'plans' have had to be changed, whether I've been informed or not, I've had to do the best I could.
I've been at wedding videography since I left school 19 years ago. Between my self, my father (business owner) and my brother we cover around 110 weddings per year. I'm not in any big city. just a rural country village so therefore I (we) must be doing something right.
Our motto is to try and do the next wedding better than the last. This doesn't always work but its what we strive to do.

Sorry if I got up your nose about what you were offering to cover that wedding. I just made a few comments. If someone wants to take that sort of money for a demanding days work, that's their problem.

I've learned a few things on this forum, and I like to think that I may have helped others. I find this forum excellent. I always try to give a 'lighthearted' view on things.

We're all in this game to make a few pounds or euro in my case. That's what its all about.
Us 'videomen' are and have always been in my eyes anyway, the most underpaid people/service on a wedding day.

Again sorry if I peeved you however much.

To you Barry, sorry for 'hogging' your thread.
I just wanted to clear the air.

No problem there Fabian! I just wished that our eldest daughters wedding we could have had someone, anyone, who knew how to use a camera & a couple that "Wanted" a beautiful memory of their special day.

As I said to one of my clients the other day, "I`m very jealous of you! your day has been captured for posterity & you can re-live it. All we have is some bits & pieces"

Kids! Don`t you just love`em!

Hello Fabian,

You'll have to do a lot more than that to get up my nose.
Seriously though, I agree that we will never stop learning. Whenever I get the chance to view wedding vids I jump at the chance. This is how I have learnt the most.
My little dig was simply made at the choice of 'Graphic' over the top of the 'rings' shot.
In my experience (only 4 years), very few people like these type of SFX. They call them 'cheesy'!
Hence... Xtra Cheese ;)

Well done for spotting it. It was in their June 2003 wedding special (camcorder user mag). Pretty honoured really.

Well done Dougy. I haven't seen it, but, it all goes to prove ....you can scream from the rooftops to try to convince everyone how great, important and knowledgable you are, but, one teeny independent compliment is confirmation you're getting it right.

Do not follow, I may not lead. Do not lead . . . I may not follow.
