does anyone have any ideas how i would recreate when you turn old tvs of and you get the white dot/line dissapear into the center of the screen? i thought you could film it of a tv but was wondering if there was another way where you had a bit more controll over it.

You should be able to simulate this in Premiere as you could use the clip motion controls and zoom the video clip of the 'TV screen' down to almost infinity in about 1/2 second. The dot could remain on screen for about another second. So you would need to set up key frames over that time period.

I did exactly this a couple of months ago for a short film I was working on.

I edit on a Matrox RT2000, and I used the Matrox supplied 2D transformations, but a similar effect could be achieved with any editing system.

What I did was compress the image vertically from top and bottom until the picture was just 1 pixel high in a line horizontally across the centre of the screen, then compressed this picture horizontally until there was just 1 pixel in the centre. I held this for a second or two then quickly faded to black.

It looked really good.

By the way, if you also use an RT2000 I can email an example project.

There is a standard transition in MSP6 for this.
