Hello,
It has been a few years since i loast posted in this board, feels good to be back...
I am looking at buying a new DV camcorder, with the intention of making short films. I am looking at same of the top end cams from Sony and Cannon, like the Canon XM2 and the Sony PD170P or Sony VX2100E.
My question is concerning the 'progressive scan' features on these cams. I have read different views concerning the quality of these modes, so which is better with the intention of creating a 'film-look' and keeping quality? Using the progressive scan modes, or shooting straight 50i interlaced and using the AE's Magic Bullet pluging to deinterlace in post?
Any help on this matter would be great!
Thanks,
Wayne.
majic bullet deinterlasces and de artifacts the footage it then allows you to grade the footage to mimic the grading process of film. for me I think majic bullet is better than shoting progressive scan, becuse you can control the look. but the down side is it takes ages.
having said that Ive only ever shot progrssive scan on a canon xl1s and xm2. I dont no what the newer cams are like. I think some of them have presets so you can get diffrant looks.
thanks for your reply,
I have played with magic bullet, and it is the best deinterlacer i have tried, very high quality. Rendering time is not an issue for me, so i guess ill use magic bullet.
I am very interested in getting myself a Cannon xm2. Cant afford to buy new but seen some good deals on ebay.
Cheers,
Wayne.
you can get exerlent results using an xm2 if your into the progrssive scan look. in fact check out 28days later it was shot on xl1s cams in prog scan.
I might be selling my xm2 in about 2 weeks time if your intrested?
