Considering upgrading my Monitor and was looking at this LG one.

Anyone advise. Would hope to connect via HDMI and be used as the main monitor with the existing one being used as a second one Via DVI or VGA.

Hi Barry

I am right in assuming that your model is also a TV?

After a wee bit more deliberation I decided to go for the iiLama Prolite E2473HDS with two HDMI sockets and the 24" display. Just been switched on for about 10 Mins. and it looks supberb. Hopefully the long term will have the same comments.

If anybody else is still interested in a monitor, I concur with Barry, the LG M227WD has a very versatile set of inputs. I use them like this:

DVI - I have an Asus EeeBox fitted to the back of the monitor, connected to the DVI port and the 3.5mm audio jack

HDMI - The HDMI port on my main edit workstation feeds this for a second screen

VGA - this has a cable connected to allow temporary connection of a laptop

Component - Available for connecting a camcorder direct to check tapes etc.

S-Video, Composite - don't use but there if required

2 x full SCART - don't use but there if required

TosLink - Digital sound out for recording if required

and there's always live TV if the main TV is busy.

The only downside is the abysmal sound through the speakers, but it's OK for just monitoring edited works. The LCD is a TN type but with careful setup, it can be reasonably good.

Cost me nearly £200 18 months ago, not a bad deal.
