A friend of mine has Windows 95 on her PC. She wants to buy a scanner but all the ones on sale are 'Win 98 or later' compliant. She cannot find one which is Win 95 compliant. She wants to use the scanner to go into digital photography but, again all the imaging software on sale says on the box 'Win 98 or later'. It's not viable for her to upgrade her OS. Would anyone know please whether installing Win 98 compliant scanner and imaging software on a Win 95 PC is likely to work and, if not, could it do any damage to her existing PC configuration?
Thanks for any comments. Tony.
the reason most scanners say win98 or above is because they use usb , which if i remember correctly , never worked very well if at all with either 95 or win nt4.
you would need to look for a second hand scanner which had win95 drivers.
mustek parrallel port models may work.
Thank you, Gary, hadn't thought of that. If my friend did find an old scanner with a parallel interface, presumably you feel shoe might be able to run Win 98 imaging software on it without damage to her PC. Cheers. Tony.

older parrallel port scanners and scsi scanners came with software for windows 95 , it's usb that doesn't work too well.
all thats required is the twain drivers fro the scanner , after that any software that can scan via twain interface 'should' work.
my first scanner was a mustek scsi unit , small isa slot scsi card .... still running today on a windows 98 machine at a friends.
ok.thanks again, Gary, for that helpful clarification. Cheers. Tony.
