Yuden 16x DVD discs

I bought a pack of these for the shiny print quality. The pack comes with a cardboard disc with mention of dire consequences if your DVD burner is not up to the 16x 'new standard'.
It mentioned a link http://www.dvdhs.com for further information. I have checked this site out and managed to confirm my pc's pioneer drive did not require a firmware upgrade, the site had no mention of my laptop's Matshita (panasonic?) drive.
Both my drives have a 8x maximum writing speed and I have burned a DVD successfully on my laptop at this speed. But I usually burn at a slightly slower speed to get a 'deeper' burn.
My questions are:-
1. does my DVD writer maximum speed of 8x pose a problem when using these discs? and,
2. am I using good logic in wanting to burn at a lower speed with these discs?

I have used these discs for the last couple of years, amazing print quality and reliability/compatability. I had never bothered to read the insert until your post. I always burn at 4x. Try one in your drive, if it works, it works, and if it does you will not be dissapointed.

Hi Colin,
thanks for the reassurance. I have burned one so far and it played back fine, I'm now champing at the bit to print on it to see how good that is.
I may seem overly cautious but the actual text on the card disc said "please check your dvd-r/rw drive before using this product . Any use with such non-complying drives may result in loss of data and/or malfunction and damages to the drives". So you can appreciate my concern,

I have now printed on the disc and I have to agree with you Colin, the whole look of the disc is much nicer. My customers have always been fine with the matt discs I have used in the past but the glossy looks much slicker ,

These are great discs and can be burnt at 4x, 8x or 16x with no problems at all.
I've produced hundreds of DVDs with them without any returned.
Yes they are expensive but the results are very good. I usually burn at 4x for a master disc using IMG burn which then goes into my duplicater tower and it then does its thing, never had a rejected disc with this media.
Only reject disc i've ever had was with a DVD+R DL verbatim and then it was only one disc in about 300.

Hi Tom,
I bought mine at totalblankmedia.com at 51p a disc (I wish they still sold penny chews so I can enjoy my saving!).
I get your point but people (and I include myself) can be very superficial. I remember being very impressed after getting back a bulk duplication and the print being shiny.
We live in an age where people get duplicated discs quite easily either from friends or some dodgy geezer in the pub and anything that distances my product visually from these 'knock-offs' is welcome,
John

When trying a sample of these, yes they looked good. But boy did they finger mark!

Really? Are you sure they were "Watershield" variety, and not just plain vanilla inkjet TaiyoYuden discs?

Well, told it was watershield. Certainly MUCH glossier than the normal TY's. Using Canon original inks. Only had one to try.
