Thanks - at that price, I shall be ordering at least one.

And I'm sure you're itching to tell how long a running time that £17.99 card will give in an HMC151 at best quality........... ;)

Yep, i use them all the time with my EX1, no problems at all.
Me and my colleagues have been using them for months now with the kensington adaptors, not had one single hiccup.

I note they are a Guernsey based company who don't take phone calls and goods are sold vat free.
Can anyone comment on whether they are a reliable co. to deal with?

Have dealt with 7Dayshop several times with no problems.

Thanks Cheema for that link to 'Memorybits'. their inks for my R200 and R340 are selling at realy low price. I have ordered some inks plus a couple of boxed cartridge six packs that are priced at a mere £5.26 each. They must be worth a try.

Cheers.

Thanks for the tip Richard.
Just paid £18 for 18gb usb memory stick inc (0) vat and post.
Cheapest elsewhere was £27minc vat/post. One third saving is pretty good.

I'm thinking of getting the Sony MCR1K. I've looked at 7 day shop, which cards do I need, the Flash cards at £34.99, or the SDHC ones at £19.99? Please say the last ones!!

I've just bought a Sony Z5 with the MCR1K and need some CF cards.

I've found some at http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Compact-Flash-Cards/MyMemory/MyMemory-16GB-133X-PRO-Compact-Flash-Card which are only £17.99 but don't know what the quality's like. Has anyone used them? They are MyMemory own brand but they also have some Kingston 16gb Elite Pro for only £20.99 delivered http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Compact-Flash-Cards?&filter=16384&gclid=CPPCl7i05pgCFQxHQwodthULdg#memFilter

7dayshop have them for £26.99, so the saving could be quite large as I will need about 10.

Anyone any suggestions as to which to go for?

Flame,
As you say the cards are priced now at £ 29.99. I'm now wondering if they made a mistake on their web page . I ordered 2 cards cost £ 39.98 yesterday.
It might be worth your while e-mailing them asking if the advertised price is correct.

Ahh, that old chestnut. Perhaps someone should tell them that the reason that demand was up was precisely because of the price, not because we all had a sudden nonsensical urge to buy a load of SDHC cards for no reason! Ah well. When they notice sales go down...

It is simply down to the poor value of the pound.

Around Christmas stores were well stocked with stuff they had bought in at a sensible £ conversion rate. New stock for the new year was bought with funds "bought forward" with the bank to cushion any curreny fluctuations. Now this has all been used up and the £ conversion rate is awful so all new stock is more or less at the "spot" rate and so much more expensive.

I predicted this would happen and over the last few weeks have bought a new pc and a new HD camera just before the prices soared (which they certainly have done). I reckon I have saved myself a lot of money.

Today I was chasing a 16GB SDHC card and the prices appeared to be going up as I was searching for them.

I checked out Tomshardware.com and found the Transcend 16GB class 6 card got a fabulous review. I managed to eventually track some down and made an offer of £55 for two of them delivered - this was accepted and they are on their way to me.

I think we are in for a huge price increase in all imported goods over the next few months so if you can afford to get what you need buy it now.

Maybe if/when we stop buying stuff at stupidly high prices as we always have done in this country the manufactureres will stop their "rip off Britain" campaign and we will be able to buy at prices which convert to what the rest of the world pays for the same goods - but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Simple economics, supply and demand.

Get my test cards document, and cards for 625, 525, 720 and 1080. Thanks to Gavin Gration for hosting them.
Camera settings documents are held by Daniel Browning and at the EBU
My book, 'Circles of Confusion' is available here.
Also EBU Tech.3335 tells how to test cameras, and R.118 tells how to use the results.

A Yorkshireman, not bothered about £3 ?????? Infidel !!!!

Anyway, if you buy from the ebay link I posted, you can add as many cards as you like for less than £26 each. It's not listed as '2 x 16GB cards', just buy as many as you need. Geddit?

They always have them listed as 'more than 10 available'.

mmm,

The increased price in SDHC cards makes the use of SSD drives ( I paid £148 ex vat for 128gb Corsairs ) which give 5 hours and 8 mins of HQ recording (max partition created by EX1/2 is 84gb) as well as hugely fast transfer times if you use SATA2. (14 mins for 5 hours onto a raid0 array)

It's not the perfect rig for handheld of course, but long shoots/conferences/studio etc, its great. A single drive can be powered by a Sony BPU30 for around 20 hours.

How do those things work Paul with the EX1/3

The best place to follow whats happening is here, its kind of a much cheaper, more reliable homebrew alternative to the PHU60.

http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/sony-xdcam-ex-cinealta/235769-ex3-working-solid-state-drive-ssd.html

I have two drives attached to my EX1 which gives me 616 minutes of HQ record, works fine with USB drives, I use Freeagent Go, but the SSD is more reliable, less easily damaged, faster for transfers and most importantly uses less power.

And a couple of months later we're back to £27.99........ http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/default.php?cat=6&type=6021&man=202&filterwords=&go=SEARCH&comp= The 8GB for less than £12 may be of interest for some - about 30 minutes of EX full quality video. Useful maybe if a job consists of shooting an interview for client and just handing the card over. Charging £12 for consumables somehow seems a lot easier than £27..... :)

It does not state whether it is Class 4 or 6 bit I presume if its a SDHC card it must be fast enough to store video clips .

Just recieved a delivery from them about 20 mins ago that they sent in three packages to avoid paying VAT.
I have always found them very good to deal with.

I once submitted an order that was partially wrong and immediately sent them an email pointing out my error. I recieved a reply within minutes cancelling my order which allowed me to then re-submit my purchases.

Great service from them.

Cheers.

You can presume at your peril. Many people have tested many brands, and AFAIK it's the Transcend and Sandisk ones that've been proved to work. But feel free to test the Toshiba for the rest of us. :D

Like Bruce I bought six Transcend 16gb Class 6 for £ 18.99 each earlier on this year so I won't be buying the Toshiba card.
Toshiba have a very good reputation in the world of electronics and if the cards mentioned are class 6 then I would presume them to be on par with Transcend and Sandisk.

If you follow this board and DVinfo then it is clear that the only really safe sensibly priced SDHC cards at the moment are Transcend 16gb class 6. The latest range of Sandisk Ultra 2s 16gb can be iffy as they have messed about with class numbers and specs plus there are a lot of fakes around. It is not worth re-inventing the wheel on this subject or on Express card adapters . If Toshiba or any other cards worked we would have heard about it.

Yes, I agree. The experience seems to be that if you follow three simple rules - no overcranking, use only the approved makes, and test the cards before use, (there are a small percentage that don't work out of the packet) using SDHC cards in an EX is 100% reliable.

Unfortunately, stories have started to circulate about unreliability with "I'd only trust proper SxS cards now" punchlines. As far as I can make out, in each case they follow one of the rules not being kept to. (Normally not testing newly bought cards.)

Infocus you have hit the nail on the head. All the recent SDHC negatives experiences have come from not knowing or not sticking to the "rules". I have been using Transcend 16gb class 6 cards since January without problems in either Kensington or MxR express adapters.
