Hard Drives

Hi
Can anyone help. there is a posting on the classified ads in this site that said that with a new fast motherboard/CPU (1.6mhz +),a fast hard drive and a lot of RAM, Premiere or Vegas would render quicker than a Matrox 2500RT. Is this correct. Doesn't the third video channel make any difference on the RT2500. I am looking to upgrade my editing setup, and if a hardware will give the same performance as a specialised RT board, it may be better to go for continual hardware upgrades rather than a dedicated board (eg Matrox RT2500) that will soon be obsolete. Thanks for your help.

I don't see the hard drive being part of this equation, and I also don't think that, at 1.6MHz, we are yet at the point that is being suggested.

Truth is, though, that the general tenet of the argument is valid.
