Hi....I am looking to enter the wedding videography business within the next year and have purchased through a media company I used to work for a SONY DSR-200p camera. I have used it occasionaly in the past for live concerts and some docu work and the results seem excellent.
But I was wondering if anyone has ever used this camera for weddings before..I know it is pretty old now and i would really like some more practical info and perhaps where i may be able to find a manual....thanks if anyone can help...

also i paid £2000..but this included 2 batteries plus an adapter which holds up to three batteries the camera plate as well as a libec H30 tripod and 2 DVCAM tapes. I thought the prices seems decent..does anyone agree or disagree?

Welcome Stefe to the forum.
DSR200 is an excellent camera. I have used it for about 4 years for various work including weddings. It is an old model and hence its low light capability is not as good. This is the reason I have just replaced it with DSR250.
I could not find the manual but you can see the brochure at http://www.sony.ca/dvcam/pdfs/dsr200a.pdf

Hi,
We have 2 DSR200's and both perform very well at weddings. I have tested a DSR250 against the 200 for light levels and the 250 is better.
My only criticism of the 250 is Sony have put the Super Steadyshot on/off inside one of their dreaded menus whereas on the 200 it is a switch on the side of the camera.
The batteries if Sony NP-F950 cost around £80 each. The plastic battery box costs an extortionate £200 or so if I remember correctly. The tripod plate was an extra at around £200 The tripod model H3 is unknown to me. The camera was priced at around £4000 when launched.
So if the camera is in good condition with reasonable hours I would say you have a reasonable buy

Hi...
and thanks for all your info on the camera..ive just noticed that the two batteries that came with the DSR200 were NP-F930....these differ slightly from yours....i think they may be slightly goosed....ive tested both ..and the maximum time in record mode is one and a half hours for each one...how does this compare to your times?...i want to buy two new ones...but am trying to find out first which is correct for this camera..if it is the NP-F930 ..or the NP-F950...
cheers again for you help....

Hi,
Fraid I am not familiar with the 930 battery, it may be another in the range from Sony and will be slightly less in power than the 950.
I load my cameras with 2 x 950's and we can shoot a wedding from start to finish and only use about half - two thirds of the battery power. This equates roughly to 90mins - 120mins of actual recording + about another 60 mins or so camera on time. If we have an evening shoot as well I load a third battery into each camera.
Using one battery only can lead to problems especially if the battery either isn't holding its charge or wont fully charge to capacity as it gets old. This way you have some safety cover.
In case you haven't noticed - on the battery box there are 3 buttons. If pressed when a battery is in situ a green led will light if the battery has reasonable power. If the led doesn't light then power is low and your camera could stop at any time and in any case shortly after the red tally lamp starts to flash and the flashing battery symbol appears in the viewfinder.
