Hi,

Could anyone tell me what the best Video Editing Software is best to use for wedding events. I am currently learning Edition 5.5 but have seen many posts on Vegas 4, Canopus and Premiere.

Could anyone give me advice on this.

Hi,
There will be very few members on here that will give many adverse comments on their particular edit software. Each piece of software has its particular merits that are suitable for certain individuals.
As you can see from my signature I am a total Canopus user and all the software suits me fine. The fact that I don't use Premiere or other edit software is because Storm/Rex and Edius do all I need, add on Procoder and Imaginate and I have a system made by one manafacturer that all works together ie compatible. That is not to say that there haven't been hiccups between the various Canopus software but they all get resolved pretty quickly with patches etc - assuming internet access and broadband as some files can be over 100Mb, Canopus UK will usually send you a cd with the download on if you request it and usually dont charge.
However the Canopus and Premiere Pro plug in drivers is another matter, causing much frustration to some that want to use Premiere Pro.
I think your best solution is to visit a video show and see the various options in action but don't believe all you hear from the demonstrators. Return home and look up the bulletin boards of the software you fancy and read the comments from the users. It is these people that will soon complain if the software is not up to scratch and likewise will sing its praises if it does.
At the end of the day you choose, pay your money and live with your choice, try to get a hands on experience of the software you are considering as a quick demonstration isn't the same as using the software daily for important projects.

Hi,

Thank you for your response. I will look into it a bit further. I did see a demo of Liquid Edition and was very impressed with it.

Edit software can be a very personal thing. Depends on the way you edit. Having cut my teeth ona very old propriety edit system - Video Machine by Fast - I found Edition difficult to get my head around - even though it was originally designed by Fast developers. Then I tried Vegas and found it very intuitive. So I have gone for it. It is not perfect but I found it easier to use. I suggest you download trial versions, if you can, and try it.
These days with firewire In, all software produce good master copy. All that is diffrent is the way you go about creating that master copy.
Hope that helps.

I too learn`t the hard way, working through various systems including VideoMachine, which is still in daily use by the boss. I also use Liquid Edition & whilst there is a steep learning curve, I consider it to be one of the best all round!

I too started on VM and in it's time it was a trailblazer in realtime. I now work solely with Canopus products, like solitaire.
You will find many posts on premiere, which, when it works is fine, but the reliability, unless you keep a very finely tuned system, is, and has always been slightly suspect.

Do not follow, I may not lead. Do not lead . . . I may not follow.

I have been looking at LE and Vegas 5 and Canopus and it seems everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

Would anyone know how Vegas 5 compares to LE 5.5?

Difficult to compare. I have not got around to upgrading from Vegas 4 to Vegas 5.
Both have plus's and minus's.
LE has background rendering - VV5 has network rendering.
I have not had a single V4 crash in last 12 months.
All I can say is simillar - but - different.

I would suggest that you look at the comparitive material posted by some of the dealers who sell most of the NLE packages. DVC have some interesting comparisons on their website and you could look at emedialive.com (http://www.emedialive.com/Articles/ReadArticle.aspx?ArticleID=8066). Videoguys are a North American site who when I last looked (a while ago) had some useful stuff.

Thanks, I have been to their website but am looking at different options at the moment. It is interesting to see the different views that people have.

I use Edition 5.5 but must admit this is the only one I have really used in earnest. Although I tried out the demos of others I did not get on with them. Fully agree with Barry H that you must keep at it as it will pay off in time. I teach it now to beginners or those who cannot master the change from other NLE's (this is not a plug by the way, just want to show how much I like it).

The main "Fors" are: Instant Save, The common Interface with easy access to tools............
I hope you decide the best NLE for you, good luck.

I did see see Edition 5.5 demo at a show and also training videos through the Pinnacle site and it seemed an incredible package. I have worked with Premiere before and could not get into that.

It is what best suits your needs I suppose. It does seem though Vegas and LE are the same but different.
