Uploading QT files to Facebook

I'm having problems here in fact complete failure.

First I tried uploading a QT movie (a series of clips from an iMovie project about 430mb) but uploading stopped at 162.47mb. I tried a smaller file, 200 odd mb but again uploading stopped at 162.47mb.
Finally I tried a file of 104mb which uploaded successfully but then Facebook advised that encoding had failed. The Facebook "help pages" are laughable and seem little more than an admission that they experience problems.
It's for a good cause, our local RSPB Facebook site but this time-consuming exercise in uploading a single 15 sec HDV clip is an absolute pain!

Any suggestions as to what might be wrong would be appreciated,

Ron

Hi Ron its probably that they have limited the file sizes you can upload so that the site has max bandwidth available, you will be better uploading it to you tube or vimeo and then linking them together.

You tube will accept up to 1920x1080 at 5mbs with h254 being the best for quality and it is easy to put a link into facebook, I personally always standardise on 1280x720p at 5mbs (apple tv) and that seems to work fine.

As a general rule it is better to host HD video on a sep site to the main web delivery page, it makes everything work a lot quicker.

yeah using the apple tv preset generally works and is good quality and avoids having to think about this too much!

Gary has a typo in his post it H264 not H254 - but the rest of the info is correct.

Thanks again. I managed to upload into YouTube. I even managed to "share" with my own Facebook site, but how do I share to the Facebook (RSPB) group site?

Yankee tech! Leaves much to be desired!
